This Gaea Greek Fresh Special Reserve Extra Virgin Olive Oil – First Cold Pressed Limited Edition is an early pressing of olive oil, which means that it will have more of an olive taste than some of the other Extra Virgin Olive oils that you are used to. They said that their process was to press this oil within 3 hours of the harvesting, that this is with the green olives, when they are still unripe, and can create a bit more of a bitter taste. Well depending on the type of olives that you like (personally green olives are more my thing than black olives) this could come off as more bitter-tasting oil to you.
That being said, there were members of my family that did notice the difference in taste. I was very happy with this. However some others, it took some getting used to. This was great for salad dressings and used for more delicate dishes rather than as a replacement for general oil (i.e. substitution as a healthy oil option). As well as dipping nice bread into with some seasoning. If you have never done it, I highly recommend trying it with French bread or Italian bread and a mix of your favorite seasoning blends.
They do say that “Each bottle comes with a “Vintage” harvest date declaration like precious wines. This olive oil is good for 30 months from the harvest date.” So you should be aware of that, and watch out for the expiration date. They do ship with a reasonable amount of time for you to use it. At $20.99 this is more of a luxury item than it is a everyday item. But they don’t hide that fact. You would probably pay more in any local store.

I’ve been using this Olive Oil for a while now, it is still my favorite so far.

It’s great tasting oil but I’m second guessing the price I paid last time. And now it’s even more expensive. I don’t know if I’ll buy it again due to price. But I do love the flavor.

This olive oil was recommended to me while in Greece. Glad I was able to find it on Amazon to continue using it. Light flavor.

I think this oil is wonderful, I pour it on a plate, throw in some good herbs and spices and use instead of butter…

I discovered this olive oil while living abroad and was pleased to find I could still get it, through Amazon, once I returned to the States. It always ships very quickly and the packaging protects the bottles very well. I use a LOT of olive oil so I order multiple bottles at a time. One of the best features of this olive oil it that the harvest date, lot info, and best by date are all listed on the bottle. Unfortunately, the last few times I’ve ordered this I have received bottles that were harvested over 2 years previously and that are within 3-4 months of expiring. Because I go through anywhere from 3-4 bottles per month, this isn’t as much of an issue for me as it would be for someone who doesn’t go through it as fast as I do. Receiving the older bottles has me a little concerned that this is the tail end of the available stock and makes me wonder if it will soon no longer be available through Amazon. Aside from the issue with the older bottles, I definitely recommend this olive oil.
