  1. Customer Review

Having watched the odd TV documentary about food, and in particular olive oil, it would seem that the veracity of olive oil can often be questionable. There have even been books written about the murky world of olive oil production (Extra Virginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil for example). Even expensive olive oil bought in supermarkets can often apparently be of dubious purity. This Iliada olive oil from the Kalamata region of Greece has PDO status so you would certainly hope that it is genuine. Kalamata olive oil certainly has a good reputation, and the taste of this particular oil is certainly different from most others that I have sampled in the past. I would call the taste sweet and almost nutty. This is very good news for me as when it comes to eating olives and consuming olive oil, the one thing that puts me off is when the olives or their oil taste bitter. You certainly could not accuse this Iliada olive oil of tasting bitter. I am not the world’s leading expert on olive oil, but I have travelled to Greece and Italy many times and have eaten in many restaurants there and consumed a lot of olive oil. I would like to think I could tell most of the time if olive oil is of poor quality or adulterated and I certainly don’t believe this olive oil is.

The best before date was around 16 months after the date of delivery.

  2. Reviews for you

This olive oil is such a great value! We order it in large cans like this too, then fill our smaller daily used dispensers. This one has such a soft, smooth flavor is the perfect consistency for cooking.

  3. GIO

This is great olive oil. The taste is very nice, balanced.
I hate how much Olive oil cost’s in America…but I won’t use regular store bought mix junk.
It compares nicely with many of the other evoo’s.
3 ltrs in the $65 range is outrageous imo.

  4. Amazon Customer

Our family consumes a lot of olive oil. We prefer Greek (due to flavor preference). This is one of my favorite brands and the price is very reasonable considering the going market price for Greek olive oil.

The flavour is exceptional – rich, green, grassy with a slightly bitter peppery finish. I pretty much drizzle it on everything apart from my cornflakes. The 3l tin was £25 earlier this year but has shot up to about £40!? I still have a litre left so will keep an eye on it to see if the price drops.

I’ve been using Iliada for years. It’s good oil but if you want that ‘bite’ in the back of your throat (oleocanthal from a green pick) this doesn’t have a lot of that. I go back and forth between this and Terra Creta, which does have the bite. Both of them are good; it’s more of a “chacun a son gout” (each to their own taste). If you want a ‘smooth’ Greek oil with a great taste, get this one (or maybe Mr Papou’s).

  7. Olive Oil

I would not call this ”the best olive oil” as many people keep touting it seems like nearly every olive oil I stumble on there’s always someone screaming ”this is the best” well its not but for the price its a great oil for sure especially for cooking I noticed it doesn’t burn like the other olive oils I’ve used, as I’m trying to move away from using EV-coconut oil for cooking and trying to use olive oil, this has been good so far, the majority of olive oils from your local supermarket are terrible and I think the average consumer is used to having bad olive oil, this olive oil is great for the price for cooking or maybe other uses, but I would use this for cooking and use Carapelli Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil for dressing the food, that I noticed is the best oil ive tried from a supermarket, and if you want more special olive oil than try Laudemio Frescobaldi or Gonnelli, these last two are what real fresh olive oil should really taste like, and I would advise only for dressing food etc as its expensive

One of THE BEST olive oil son the market in US. This is one of those items that if you find , you keep to yourself, so I’m reluctant to write a review. Because generally food quality in Europe is by far better than in US, thanks to european food quality standards and no standards , or bought by US mega-billion-dollar conglomerates fake “standards” in USA. That allow US food manufacturers put all kinds of junk or even non-food items into colorful boxes with bright pictures and clever marketing, and then find ways to lower quality of ingredients to make billions on unsuspecting customers who are exploding in weight and various diseases. Don’t let me started on “fast food” which isn’t food. But I digress.

This product is of true european quality. The one you find while traveling in France, Italy and Greece and trying their cuisines. I use it for eating and salads (no, vinegar is not part of my “dressings”, vinegar is preservative and not food). My wife cooks with it, I use other products – specifically glee – because their burning temperature is higher and you don’t get black marks. I’ve tried several other products, including top-20 here on Amazon like Partanna, they aren’t as good. In fact Partanna is sitting in the closet for the time when we’ll run out of Iliada.

Let’s turn this US food business around. We have enough people of european descent and enough people with money who are interested in real foods (not the food channel and not the marketing/propaganda such as “2000 calories per day”). There is a huge population of very sick people in USA due to fast food and packaged garbage mostly sold by supermarkets. If you buying pizza or you think burger and french fries is food, this review is also for you. Spare some extra bucks and buy this olive oil. You will learn something from the thousands of years of european food making traditions.

  11. Patinal

This is the very best olive oil I have ever purchased!!! The color is deep green, the quality is superb!! You will love the big size so you can refill your counter top & smaller cupboard cans. The price is the best yet!! Texture is grandiose! It’s easy to pour & versatile with the handle on top of the can. I’m sorry others received theirs damaged but mine was packaged very well!! I will continue to purchase this kalamara olive oil & never be without it!! Thank you, Amazon for selling this wonderful brand at such a great price!

  12. Wilde’s Cabbage

One of the nicest bulk-buy extra virgin olive oils at a very reasonable price. I use to subscribe with an olive oil company for a monthly delivery of unique olive oils from around the world – the price of this subscription was exorbitant! But the oils were so good that I bit the bullet and excepted that this company had changed my perception of olive oil – anything else now, simply would not compare.

I was browsing through the olives oils at Selfridges on a trip to London and must have spent a considerable amount of time pondering over a purchase, when a young attendee approached me, eager to share her opinion. It turned out her family owned an olive grove in Greece, she explained – without my prompting – when she runs short on her family’s supply she buys nothing except Iliada – apparently the taste was far superior than some well known brands; fresh, fruity, deep, grassy, rich in flavour with a lovely green hue. The cost she explains, was easier to digest too. Im talking ten plus years ago here when Iliada were quite new to the UK, the cost has come down a lot more since then.

I just had to give it a go. She wasn’t wrong.
I consequently cancelled my subscription with the online olive company and haven’t looked back since.

Now that I can buy it on Amazon at a fraction of the price and in bulk, it makes my purchase so much simpler. Especially with the extra discount with Subscribe & Save.
